Turkey Trot

I have been stuck in Recovery phase all fall- lol! I couldnt run for September and into October, but was able to start running off and on in the beginning of this month. Even two weeks ago I still had days where i couldnt make it a mile, due to things creeping up in my legs.

With that in mind, Steve thought it would be a good idea if I just participated in a turkey trot, to remind myself that Im still part of the running community even if I'm not up to par.

I seriously hated this idea, mainly because a race is a competition, and you dont enter something like that when you have had not only had no workouts or good running, but don't even know if you can run!

Steve suggested I get up at 4 am and do a little walk/jog and then put my feet in boiling water to see if that would help get the blood going, and see if I could run.

I Showed up 45 min before the start and got stuck in a huge race day registration line... in t he end I didnt even have time to take my purse and coat back to my car, or put on my racing shoes... I quickly handed all my stuff to some strange lady, and got to the start during the national anthem! Before I could even do a warm up, or stride out the gun went off!

Steve cautioned me not to go fast since my legs are so bad, and we dont want further inury, so my goal was to run even splits: which I did :-)

mile 1: 6:10
mile 2 : 12:21
5k : 18:58

I won a freaking turkey, and a cake, and a shirt ( they were out of them when I registered, so they awarded me with one at teh ceremony, ) and I also won my age division, women 20 to 29 plaque. I was happy because there were about 2000 ppl in this race, so I was pretty shocked!

I know the time isnt anything special, but it was special to me since the last time I raced was the fall of 2004- and even then I was really injured. I've been doing physical therapy for so long, and I wasnt even in shape or ready to run this, so it is sentimental to me for a lot of personal reasons.
yey!
